My wife Linda and I have been coming to the Sanctuary Resort for over 20 years. The reason we have returned for all these years(even though it is a 1,000 mile trip each way) is the people who own and operate the resort. Carol and Peter and formerly Robert Horley are greatest hosts you will ever find. The location on Whitefish Bay on Lake of the Woods allows you access to a multiple of species. Musky, northern pike, lake trout, walleye, and both large and small bass are all within easy fishing distance. If not interested in fishing there is enough access to wildlife and fauna to keep your interest.
A short story of our first visit to island resort. The first night when we had arrived occurred during a full moon early in July, while laying in bed that night the moon had rising. It was a that time I heard the call of the loons, it was both sad and beautiful. To this day I still get chills when i think or talk about this.
I would wholeheartedly recommend the Sanctuary Resort to anyone who wishing to find a place where the fishing is terrific and the surrounding area is so beautiful.
